Ecological restoration and rehabilitate at its core seeks to improve the ecological condition of previously degraded land, or maintain existing high quality areas to maintain their environmental services and values for future generations. These values may be services (like managing water and air quality), or intrinsic values like habitat for threatened species, and the persistence of natural values.
Increasingly, as a trade-off for intensification or new land use projects (such as intensive agriculture, extractive industries, infrastructure and urban development) greater expectations are being placed on projects to achieve a net environmental gain.
These outcomes may be conditioned (i.e. under a development approval, environmental authority or EPBC Act 1999 referral condition set) or be voluntary, to enhance or maintain social licence for a project outcome or business activity.Australian Ecological Restoration Services is a company that specializes in environmental product design. We work with clients to create sustainable, eco-friendly products that are both functional and beautiful.
Typically once you obtain a development approval (or other kind of authority to complete works) which includes a requirement for environmental rehabilitation or environment offsets you will consider how best to deliver these obligations in the most efficient and cost effective approach, ensuring that all legal obligations to achieve a conservation outcome are met.
For smaller projects proponents generally seek to deliver a financial environmental offset (i.e. conservation payment) outcome as priority due to their relative low cost and short timeframes. This is typically something which you would first discuss with your project environmental consultant (i.e. ecologist).
As offset and revegetation obligations grow (i.e. for larger projects) the potential to deliver financial offsets is reduced, with assessment agencies (such as Council, State and Federal Government) requiring proponents to take ownership for their delivery of their consideration outcome. This can include either delivery of onsite environmental works (either through on site rehabilitation/revegetation, or the delivery of an external (offsite) revegetation outcome).

This varies considerably and is determined by the scope of works required and level of required follow up maintenance.
Contact us to discuss your project and we can help you understand where your project is likely to sit in regards to budget! We design a wide range of products, including consumer goods, industrial equipment, packaging and more. Our design process is tailored to each client's specific needs and goals, and we work closely with them to ensure that the final product meets their expectations.
We’d love it if you do – and don’t stop – we need an army to tackle the weed challenges this Country is facing!
However, if your works are conditioned under a development approval, environmental authority and potentially also certain grant programs, it is likely that the works will need to be completed by a suitably qualified and experienced bushland rehabilitation technician (i.e. bush regenerator) who is familiar with the work to be undertaken, local native and non-native species and how best to manage these to limit their long term persistence. Ultimately, if you need to deliver a conservation outcome to counterbalance a corresponding ecological impact, Councils and Government Agencies expect these works to be done in a manner which maximises the potential for success.
This doesn’t mean you can’t be involved, and we have many great examples of landholder stewardship of revegetation works. Talk to us if you’d like to discuss a partnership in delivering your rehabilitation works!
It depends.
If you are looking to lay 10m2 or turf, or even 100m2 of turf it is likely going to be most cost efficient to purchase turf from your local hardware store or turf supplier.
As your grass area grows, the cost benefits of turfing your lawn quickly diminish and hydromulching or hydroseeding is likely to be a most cost effective and efficient way to get a great lawn. It might also save yours and a few mate’s backs.

In addition to a range of native and non-native grass blends (typically used for erosion stabilisation projects) great lawns can be achieved using a hydroseeder, including:
- Kikuyu
- Bermuda grass
- Buffalo grass
- Zoysia
